Be a Shining Star - Help us celebrate our 60th Birthday

It's easy to be a Children's Ability Fund Shining Star and make things a little brighter for someone with a disability.

If you have a great idea for a fundraising project in your community - or at the office - let us know. We'll help publicize the event and provide support.

Be creative and have fun. How about a neighborhood BBQ, garage sale or bake sale; a penny carnival at the school; or an inter-office softball challenge or golf tournament? It's a great way to get a group of people together, have a lot of fun and raise a little money to assist someone in need.

Some of the more recent Shining Star projects include:
  • Father's Day Fun @ Gateway Entertainment Center
  • Colby's 6th birthday
  • Second Cup - Star Sales
  • Carnival of the Stars ' Millwoods Towne Center
  • City of Edmonton ' Human Resources
  • College of Physicians & Surgeons
  • RAH Neonatal Unit - "Synapse"
  • AB Human Resources - Craft Night
  • 7-Eleven Coin Box program
  • Caesar's School of Music - Recital

Children's Ability Fund stars really shine! Together we can "enhance the independence of people with disabilities throughout northern Alberta."

Children's Ability Fund Stars are ordinary people who choose to do something extraordinary. Be a shining star today.

Call the Children's Ability Fund office @ (780)454-9191 to talk to us about a shining star project in your area.

SILVER SKATE FESTIVAL - February 15th & 16th, 2008

The Silver Skate Festival, entering its 18th year, is the longest running winter festival in Edmonton. The Festival is rooted in the Dutch tradition of a love for the outdoors and long blade skating. As the Festival grew in Edmonton it became a celebration of winter and developed a unique blend of culture, sport, art and recreation in the beautiful setting of Hawrelak Park and the River Valley.

Attendees can watch ice dance and theatrical performances, participate in recreational winter activities for all ages, participate in fun skate races, watch the snow sculptors at work and walk through the snow gallery, take in the beauty of the park on a sleigh ride, and try delicious Dutch treats. There are special children's activities, and a warm up area inside the Pavilion. The Silver Skate Festival is home to the 25K and 50K Northgate Skate Marathon and the Mammoet Edmonton Winter Triathlon. Both these events are by registration, open to all.

The Festival is produced by the Silver Skate Festival Society and proceeds from the Festival benefit the Children's Ability Fund. For more information check out the website @ www.silverskatefestival.org.
